The problem

In a child's room, the light switch is the one thing on the wall you touch ten times a day, and it is usually the dullest: a plain white plate. Changing it means cutting the power and touching the wiring, which nobody does for decor, let alone in a rented home.

The solution

The cover fits over your existing switch. A frame clips around the plate, a small peg sticks onto the rocker, and the character clips onto the frame. Push the nose up or down, the peg tips the rocker: the switch works exactly as before. Nothing is drilled, nothing is taken apart, and it all comes off in ten seconds.

Description

Made for the Schneider Odace range

The cover is designed for the Schneider Odace range, square single plate of 85 × 85 mm, with a rocker switch: on/off or two-way. To check, look at your plate: the Schneider logo is engraved at the bottom right. It does not fit other brands or other Schneider ranges. Push-button and dimmer versions will come later. If in doubt, send a photo of your switch before ordering.

What you receive

  • The cover of the character you choose, colour pieces already glued
  • Two frames, square and rounded corners, to match your plate
  • The peg and its double-sided adhesive pad
  • The control (nose, beak or snout depending on the character), held by a magnet
  • The fitting template, which puts the peg in the right place

Fitting

  1. Place the template on the plate, stick the peg in its window, lift the template off.
  2. Clip the frame around the plate.
  3. Slide the peg through the cover and clip the cover onto the frame.
  4. Snap the control onto the peg, the magnet holds it.

How it is made

Each cover is 3D printed after you order, then the small colour pieces are glued by hand into their recesses. The frame is printed in PETG, a material that flexes without breaking, so its clips hold the plate without forcing.

Removal

Pull the control, then the cover, then ease the frame open. To go back to the original switch, peel off the peg and clean the adhesive with alcohol.

Safety warning

The control comes off when pulled and contains a 5 mm magnet: it is a small part that can be swallowed. Keep it out of reach of children under 3: fit the cover out of their reach or remove the control. A swallowed magnet is dangerous, see a doctor immediately if one is swallowed. This product is not a toy. It fits over a switch in good condition, without opening or removing any electrical fitting.
